ipatherm heating glass

ipatherm is a heatable glass – its surface temperature can reach up to 60°C

The ipatherm laminated glass unit consists of two heat-treated glass panes joined together, made of single-pane safety glass or of thermally toughened glass. One of the two panes bears a heat-generating transparent layer, which is connected to an electricity source via one of its edges. The two panes are joined together to form a type of laminated glass with safety glass properties. This can be combined with a multitude of glass types, and can also be processed further into insulating glass units.

These technical glass types have a wide range of applications:

  • Thawing the snow load on glass roofs
  • De-icing of panes that are iced over
  • Removal of condensation from panes
  • Increasing the living comfort in rooms without a conventional heating system

The heating glass is connected directly to the electricity supply and can be controlled using an instrument for temperature monitoring. Additionally, the room temperature can be controlled using a thermostat if one or several panes are installed. If the heating glass is to be used for room heating, the planner or heating engineer in charge must first be consulted to determine the necessary capacity. The ipatherm heating glass types are suitable for use in window construction. If they are used in insulating glass structures, the ipatherm unit usually has to be placed on the side facing the room. The heating capacity of each pane has to be calculated by Interpane.

Control of pane temperature

The temperature control system serves the purpose of setting the desired temperature and ensuring that the maximum permissible pane temperature of 60 °C is not exceeded. This control is necessary from a capacity per unit area of 200 W/m² upwards. Each pane needs its own temperature control system. It is possible to connect the panes up to a current of 10A without an additional relay.

Room thermostat

Using one or more room thermostats, the heating panes can be switched on and off, depending on the heating requirement of the monitored room. Any room thermostat with a relay outlet can be used. Panes with a total current of up to 10A can be operated on a single room thermostat. The use of additional relays allows virtually any number of heating panes to be controlled via a single room thermostat.

Unregulated heating panes

This variant is used wherever only a low heating pane capacity per unit area (< 200 W/m²) is needed. It can be used, for example, to prevent panes from steaming up.
